Interior design with a sense of well-being
Let’s be honest, in this day and age most people spend a lot of their time at home. Especially, if we live in a place that is designed in a manner that evokes comfort and a sense of calm, a respite from our busy public lives. Because of this, we can´t overlook the importance of designing properly our homes.
If we think about physical & mental health, as a society we tend to reach out to “wellness” spaces such as spas and gyms to support our health. My question is why is our home among the last places we consider when we need to unwind and recharge? Why are the same rules not applicable to our homes?
The home we live in can (& should!) promote good mental health and help improve our overall physical well-being if designed and organised adequately.
At BB Interiors we believe that there are two key factors when it comes to designing such spaces for our clients: the brief & a sustainable-led mindset.
As a practice, we don´t have an in-house style as we believe that the properties we design should be a physical representation of the personalities, desires and ambitions of our clients. That way we ensure that every room responds to the aim the owner wants, whether is to bring calm, spark creativity or simply enjoy as a family and as a consequence, our client has the emotional reaction intended for each space.
On the other hand, a sustainable-led approach leading the architectural and interior design process will ensure the incorporation of the latest technology in sustainability within the project which will reduce the carbon footprint of the building and also help reduce the energy bills. Furthermore, this outlook helps to bring to focus the importance of natural materials for a better daily impact on our health. This goes from the use of plant-based paints (for a more breathable option) through the use of natural timber, linens and cotton in the most luxurious ways to the acquisition of antiques, family heirlooms and reclaimed pieces.
Of course, we like to go out and socialise but if you think about it, our homes should feel like our real retreat, our haven. For this, we look closely at elements such as the amount and quality of natural light, the flow of the spaces, the usability of the storage spaces, the design of the outdoor spaces and how they interconnect with our indoor life, and a million other things! All to ensure the property is 100% tailored to each client to enhance that sense of well-being that is at the root of our happiness.
Sustainability, natural elements, light, and an overall idea of connection to nature and oneself create a wellness-orientated home. Cementing our basis, our ethos, high standards, intuition, and a combined approach to architecture and interior design are the foundations that propel us ahead. Because of this, we will never change our approach and will continue to thrive in designing the perfect home for each one of our clients.
